They say that all roads lead to Rome, and no wonder why. This ancient Italian city preserves within its walls centuries of history, art, gastronomy and culture, as varied as it is unique in the world.

With such a beautiful, rich and varied heritage, Rome is one of the most visited and loved cities in the world…let me show you why. Here’s my ultimate Rome travel guide!

WHAT TO EXPECT IN ROME

1. CLIMATE

Being a Mediterranean country, the four seasons are very noticeable.

The hottest months are from June to August, with an average temperature of between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius, (although there are specific days when it can be more).

The coldest months are from October to March, with an average temperature of between 5 and 12 degrees, (although there are specific days when it can be less or a little more).

The months of April, May, September and October are the best time of the year to enjoy the city. With an average temperatures between 15 and 23°C, it’s the perfect weather to get to know better all the secrets that Rome hides in his ancient walls.

WHAT TO DO IN ROME

They say that if you throw a coin in the fountain you will always come back to Rome…I did it the first time I travelled here…and here I am again! I don’t know if it’s luck or fate but who knows, all roads lead to Rome!

All the money in the fountain is collected and given to Caritas so that it can be distributed to all the associations and places in the city that need it.

TIP: If you want to take a picture like mine with no people on it, go at 7am or 8am maximum and you will have all the place for yourself!

1. FONTANA DI TREVI

2. PANTHEON

The Pantheon, built in 126 BC, is also known as Agripa because it was built on the ancient remains of the Agripa Pantheon, destroyed by fire many years ago.

It’s the best preserved building of ancient Rome, you may also recognize it as it was one of the stops made in the movie Angels and Demons.

I’m a huge fan of this saga and I must say that I was very excited to be in the same place and fantasize about all the mysteries that hide the ancient walls of this magical place.

3. ALTARE DELLA PATRIA

The monument, 70 meters high, was built to commemorate Victor Emanuelle II of Savoy, the first king of unified Italy.
It is located between Piazza Venezzia and Capitoline Hill, right next to the Colosseum.
At the back of the monument they have inaugurated a panoramic elevator with incredible views of the city. It costs only 2€ and it is completely worth it, especially at sunset! The views of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the city of Rome under the golden light are unforgettable!

4. VATICAN CITY

Vatican City began its existence as an independent state in 1929.
Every day thousands of tourists visit it, it is full of art, history and has spectacular views from the chapel of St. Peter’s Basilica.
The square is usually not so crowded first thing in the morning, so if you want to take pictures, go around 8am and you will have some beautiful pictures with no one in them! Well, maybe a Swiss guard will show up in the background…even more fun and authentic!

WHERE TO STAY IN ROME

Rome’s architecture is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, and what I like about this city is that the hotels preserve this very special essence, enhancing its history in different ways, each one bringing its own special touch. My favorite hotels to stay in Rome are:

MARIGNOLI 1
Image from Villa Marignoli's website

Villa Marignoli, wich was the home for a former noble italian family many years ago, it’s now transformed into a mesmerizing hotel.

Located in the heart of Rome, just a couple of minutes walk from Villa Borguese, and only 15 minutes walk from the Trevi Fountain or Piazza di Spagna.

I used to go for an early morning walk every day and I loved being so close to the main points of interest, as well as being able to relx a just before going to sleep by going down to the park and contemplating the beautiful views from its viewpoint.

You can book it here
